LEBRON: BREAKING RECORDS AND BREAKING A SWEAT
LeBron James added another chapter to his legendary career on Friday, January 3, surpassing Michael Jordan’s record for the most 30-point games in NBA history.
In the Los Angeles Lakers’ 119–102 win over the Atlanta Hawks, James hit his 563rd 30-point game, surpassing Jordan’s mark from 2003.
James dropped 30 points on 13-of-20 shooting, sealing the milestone with an 18-foot jumper that felt like a nod to Jordan himself. Reflecting on the achievement, LeBron said, “It’s humbling. Anytime I’m mentioned with any of the greats, and arguably the greatest ever, it’s super cool. MJ was my idol growing up—I even wear 23 because of him. So to be in the conversation is just super-duper dope for me.”
The Lakers had a strong showing overall, with Anthony Davis contributing 18 points, 19 rebounds, and three blocks, while Austin Reaves chipped in 20 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. But let’s be honest—this night belonged to King James.
Anthony Davis couldn’t resist poking fun at his teammate for taking seven more seasons to break Jordan’s record. “It’s a hell of an accomplishment,” Davis said. “He’s probably No. 1 in everything at this point. I’ve seen so many of his milestones up close—I just want to keep stacking them with him.”
LeBron, who turned 40 earlier this week, shows no signs of slowing down. He also passed Dirk Nowitzki in total career games, moving into fourth on the all-time list. Fun fact: only two other players—Nowitzki (1) and Jordan (4)—scored 30-point games after turning 40. LeBron? He’s already got two in five days. At this rate, he might break that record by next Tuesday.
