On August 23, Russian forces launched an airstrike on the town of Kurakhove in the Donetsk region.

The Russian missile specifically targeted the “Olympic” sports complex, which was all but destroyed. This act underscores Russia’s ongoing war crimes in Ukraine by deliberately striking civilian infrastructure, including sports facilities.

The “Olympic” complex features a 50-meter outdoor swimming pool, previously used as a training base for Ukraine’s Olympic and Paralympic teams. This facility has also hosted Ukrainian championships, cups, and the Universiade. Russia’s attacks on such vital civilian infrastructure highlight its continued disregard for international law and human rights.
